Cloud Lock-in

Written by one to ONE Holdings | Feb 27, 2026 9:17:27 AM

Cloud lock-in is a form of vendor lock-in where an organization depends heavily on a single cloud provider. This reliance on proprietary APIs, unique data formats, or high egress fees makes migration costly or technically unfeasible.

To protect digital sovereignty, firms should adopt a “cloud-neutral” approach. Using containerization and open architectures keeps workloads portable, enabling smooth transitions between providers without losing control of infrastructure.
