Just-in-Time (JIT)

Just-in-Time (JIT) is a production philosophy focused on eliminating inventory waste by manufacturing and delivering components only when they are needed and in the exact quantities required.

It operates on a pull system, where subsequent processes signal their need for parts to preceding processes, rather than the traditional push method.

The fundamental goal is to achieve minimal stock levels—ideally zero—for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. JIT requires highly optimized logistics, reliable suppliers, and continuous flow to ensure that production halts due to shortages are prevented, maximizing capital efficiency.
