# Non-Fossil Electricity

Non-fossil electricity is generated without [fossil fuels](https://www.o2oh.com/glossary/fossil-fuels), including coal, oil, or natural gas. It includes renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass, and nuclear energy.

In the steel industry, products manufactured with non-fossil electricity are called "non-fossil electricity steel" and are mainly produced using [Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF)](https://www.o2oh.com/glossary/electric-arc-furnace-eaf).

For corporations, using non-fossil electricity helps prevent global warming and supports [CO₂ emission](https://www.o2oh.com/glossary/co2-emission) reduction targets. It also strengthens corporate branding and public relations by demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability.
