Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a crucial metric in lean manufacturing that measures how effectively a manufacturing operation is utilized.
It's calculated by multiplying three factors: Availability, Performance, and Quality. Availability accounts for planned and unplanned downtime. Performance measures speed losses, such as idling or minor stops. Quality accounts for products that don't meet quality standards, including rejects and rework. The OEE score gives a single, powerful snapshot of a machine's productivity, helping identify areas for improvement.
