Toyota Production System (TPS)
The Toyota Production System (TPS) is a cohesive socio-technical framework established by Toyota to manage manufacturing and logistics.
Its two foundational pillars are Jidoka (automation with a human touch, meaning stopping the line when a problem occurs) and Just-in-Time (JIT) (producing only what is needed, when it is needed, and in the amount needed).
The overarching goal of TPS is to eliminate waste (Muda) and overburden (Muri) while reducing inconsistency (Mura). This system provides the framework for lean manufacturing, focusing on maximizing value delivery to the customer while achieving high efficiency and minimizing inventory and costs across the entire value chain.
