Business Continuity Planning, or BCP refers to a comprehensive plan that guides a company's or organization's continued operations during emergencies. The purpose of a BCP is to minimize damage, ensure the continuity of essential business functions, and enable a quick recovery following a crisis such as a natural disaster, terrorist attack, or system failure.
With the recent memory of the pandemic and global supply chain disruptions, the importance of BCP has become more pronounced. The concept originally gained attention in the U.S. and U.K. in the 1970s. Its importance became globally recognized after the attacks of September 11, 2001, in the U.S., and its significance has been particularly highlighted in Japan, the home of o2Oh's founding company, since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, when the strong earthquake and tsunami hit vast areas of Japan.
