Electrolyzers
Electrolyzers are key devices central to the future energy system. Their primary function is to produce hydrogen gas and oxygen efficiently by electrolysis.
The device splits water by applying an electrical current. When hydrogen is produced using renewable sources like solar or wind energy, it is referred to as "Green Hydrogen", a crucial zero-emission fuel and industrial feedstock.
The most common types include Alkaline and Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, each offering different advantages in efficiency, operational flexibility, and cost. Electrolyzers are essential for sector coupling and for decarbonizing heavy industry.
