EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a verified, registered document that transparently communicates a product or service's life-cycle environmental performance.
It is a Type III Environmental Declaration issued under ISO 14025. The underlying environmental data is grounded in a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), as standardized by the ISO 14040 series and follows specific Product Category Rules (PCR). An EPD is third-party verified to ensure its accuracy and compliance with these standards.
The declaration presents quantified environmental data for various impact areas, such as the potential for global warming (carbon footprint), energy use, and water consumption, across the product's entire life—from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal ("cradle-to-grave" or "cradle-to-gate").
EPDs enable sustainable procurement and allow fair comparison of products serving the same function, driving environmental optimization in design and construction.
