Thermic Lance
Thermic Lance is a type of lance pipe where the inner diameter of a general carbon steel pipe—often referred to as a black pipe in the steel industry—is filled with wires or an even smaller diameter inner pipe, also made of general carbon steel.
This tool is known by various names depending on the region and industry, and may also be called a Thermal Lance, Oxygen Lance, Burning Bar, or Fire Lance.
The mechanism of the Thermic Lance is to promote the combustion reaction between iron (Fe) and oxygen (O2) by feeding oxygen through the pipe filled with wires or an inner tube. This reaction generates ultra-high temperatures ranging from 3,000°C to 4,000°C (5,432°F to 7,232°F).
Thermic Lances are primarily used in contexts such as scrap yards and construction sites for cutting large blocks of scrap, or in steel production and metal refining facilities for cleaning slag—impurities that solidify during the refining process.
Furthermore, Thermic Lances come in two main product specifications: the "T-type," which combines both wires and an inner pipe, and the "W-type," which contains only wires and no inner pipe.
As one of the group companies of o2Oh, Daiwa Lance International (DLI) manufactures and exports thermic lance. Discover how our globally-trusted pipes can optimize your steel production efficiency and reduce operating costs.
