Decarbonization
Decarbonization is the process of reducing and ultimately eliminating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, particularly carbon dioxide CO2, across all sectors of the economy.
The primary goal is to achieve a net-zero equilibrium between the carbon released into the air and the carbon taken out of it. This change is essential for addressing climate change and involves systemic changes across energy, industry, transport, and agriculture.
Key technical solutions include transitioning to renewable electricity, developing green hydrogen and other clean fuels for heavy industry, improving energy efficiency, and deploying Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies to manage residual emissions. It represents a fundamental technological and structural overhaul of global infrastructure.
