Net Zero
Net Zero is the ultimate, scientifically-backed goal of the Paris Agreement. It is the state where human activities achieve a balance between the total quantity of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions emitted into the atmosphere and the volume removed.
Unlike "Carbon Neutrality," Net Zero comprehensively covers all GHGs, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O).
To meet the critical 1.5°C global warming limit, the consensus is that the world must achieve this rigorous net-zero status by 2050. This commitment requires maximizing emissions reductions first, then offsetting only the unavoidable residual emissions.
